The new Rescue Squad Headquarters Building at 2521 Rescue Road was dedicated at a ceremony on July 19, 2003 as the Robert L. Dunlap Building.
Mr. Dunlap is a charter member of the squad and is still an active member, serves as the Squad Treasurer, and mans Rescue 4 to transport traffic and water related fatalities.

The three members were recognized by Sheriff Cannon for the efforts in the saving of a woman who had jumped from the Ashley River Bridge at I-526.
After jumping into the river, the crew launched Rescue Boat 65 from Leeds Ave. Boat Landing, located the woman in the river, fought her both in the water and on the boat, finally bringing the 300 pound woman under control and restraining her. She was brought to the boat landing safety and turned over to EMS and the Sheriff's Office.

2004 was the first year

its members with the recognition they deserve. The Rescuer of the Year
Award is dedicated to a
long time member of the
Squad Mr. G.J. Meitzler.

"G.J. Meitzler" Rescuer of the Year Award - was awarded to William Thompson this year for his dedication and willingness to be there when needed.
Rookie of the Year was awarded to Dan Poe for his performance and dedication to improve the squad and coordination of training activities for the rescue Squad and local Fire Depts.
Kenny Mercer was presented the Meritorious Service Award for his leadership and actions in the rescue of a man trapped between two wall in down town Charleston earlier in the year.
For their efforts above and beyond what is expected during a marine rescue on Deveaux Bank, Seabrook Island. Due to severe marine conditions, citizens and Public Safety First Responders became stranded and in danger of hypothermia. His courageous actions in adverse weather condition in saving all personnel were a credit to the Rescue Squad and citizens of Charleston County.

For their actions on an entrapment on July, 23, 2003 Kenny Mercer, Rescue Squad and Captain Gene Barrineau of Engine 10 Charleston FD were presented the Golden Cutter Award by TNT Rescue Tools.

For his actions on an entrapment on Shem Creek Bridge in December 2003, William "Sport" Kitchner was presented the Golden Cutter Award by TNT Rescue Tools.
